The farm's history

The oldest buildings on Garnanäs farm is from the 1700s. The stable was built in 1884 and allegedly moved here from Bommestorp, Ronneby. The barn is built 1887.

The estate was liable for military service until 1987. Being a draftee farm means the farm's facilities had to provide accommodation for crew, set up command center and more.

A hundred years ago, 12 people worked on the farm. Large quantities of ground stone has been cut and exported mainly to Germany's roads. The break ended just before World War II.

My grandfather bought the farm in 1912 with his first wife, who later died, in 1917. He was then forced to bail out their first-born son from the farm with 650 000 in today's money.

During World War II an anti-aircraft battery was built which is called Ryssjön Battery. The battery consisted of five anti-aircraft guns blasted in the rock. Each shell weighed 360 kg. Each piece weighed 120 tons.

During World War II a café was held in the courtyard and military officers were housed in these building. Harry Martinsson has been here and bought milk and eggs.

Governor Ingegerd Wernersson inaugurated the campaign, "Living Landscapes" the spring of 2002.

The farm has about 10 islands, some of which are grazed by the farm's sheep to be kept open.

We have had guests from Italy, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Austria, France, United States (New York), Poland, Denmark, Czech Republic, Finland, Norway, England and Åland.
