The history of Garnanäs Gård
The oldest buildings at Garnanäs Gård were built in the 18th century. The stable was built in 1884 and is believed to have been moved here from Bommestorp, Ronneby. The barn was built in 1887.
One hundred years ago twelve people worked at the farm. A lot of road bricks were cut out and exported, mainly to Germany. The extraction ended right before the second world war.
The farm was liable for military service until 1987, which means it was prepared to host troops and officers.
During World War II there was a cafeteria at the farm, military officers stayed in one of the buildings and a fully equipped military hospital was placed in the bedrock.
My grand father bought the farm in 1912 together with his first wife, who died in 1917.
Around ten islets belong to Garnanäs Gård. To maintain their open landscape we keep our sheep grazing on them.
We have had guests from Italy, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Austria, France, United States (New York), Poland, Denmark, Czech Republic, Finland, Norway, England and Åland.
In 2003 we had around 1500 people staying with us.
